Getting Around Belize

Belize is considered a small country and is less than 200 miles long and 75 miles wide at its widest point.  Getting around Belize can take much longer than you expect depending on your point of departure, the traffic and the weather.  According to Lan Sluder in his book "Living Abroad in Belize" here is a list of mileage distances and typical driving times it takes approximately to get around Belize.

Mexican border to Punta Gordo:   290 miles, 7.5 hours
Belize City to Guatemalan border at Benque Viejo  82 miles, 2 hours
Corozal Town to Belize City:  96 miles, 2.25 hours
Orange Walk Town to Belize City:  57 miles, 1.25 hours
Belize City to Dangriga (via Coastal Road):  85 miles, 2.5 hours
Belize City to Placencia (via Hummingbird Hwy.):  156 miles, 3.75 hours
Belize City to Mountain Pine Ridge entrance gate:  82 miles, 2.25 hours
Dangriga to Punta Gorda:  100 miles, 2.5 hours
Hopkins to Placencia:  43 miles, 1.25 hours
San Ignacio to Placencia:  122 miles, 3.5 hours
